An Bang Beach - All you need to know!

Posted by Paul Macnicol on 16th Feb 2014

One of the Hidden Highlights of Hoi An, An Bang Beach is a popular destination all year round, although it is best visited during the hot summer months of April -Sept. During the winter season it is a popular destination for surfers, with good swells coming in regularly from the Philippines.

Located about 6km from the Old Town, it is a much more beautiful spot than nearby Cua Dai beach which has suffered terribly from erosion in recent years, and has arguably better restaurant and bar options too.

Arriving at An Bang Beach by bike or car brings you to the middle of a string of restaurants and bars, with the most interesting places located at either end of the strip. Don't overlook the Restaurants, Bars and cafe's hidden among the back streets either, with our personal favourites being Driftwood Cafe (Wood Fired Pizzas), Under the Coconut Tree (Backpacker spot with cheap and exceptional food) and Taco Tuesdays at the Bungalow Bar.

On the beach itself, for high end entertainment you cant beat The Shore Club at the northern end of the beach, and The Deckhouse next door offering a similar fare.

Soul Kitchen is still the biggest and most lively bar in An Bang with regular live music performances, and is therefore very busy most times. You might like to check out the sister restaurant at the opposite end of the beach called "Soul Beach" which is a little more relaxed but still has regular events.

Kukun bar is a great new addition with regular DJ nights, great food and a Thailand style ambiance complete with Hammocks for long hours of chilling upstairs.

For Vegans and Vegetarians, don't miss The Fisherman with a good menu of nourishing options.

At the southern end of the beach (near Soul Beach), the beachside restaurants finish with a new resort development, however if you continue 500m along the beach or go back out onto the main road and head south towards Cua Dai, you will arrive at Thanh Tan beach. This area is becoming a bit more upmarket than the regular An Bang beach, but has yet to become overcrowded and is definitely worth a look.

The best place on Thanh Tan is clearly the Salt Pub, an Australian / Vietnamese run sports bar on the beach, with a fantastic grassy area leading down to the beach that is very kid friendly

There are some nice places to stay here as well, the highlights being the Beachside Boutique which is opposite, and owned by, the salt pub

A little further along is K.A. Villa, a nice boutique hotel with a good swimming pool and friendly staff
